about the project
pre-context
the project
previously i conducted a project which involved invoking the memory of a person through a phrase posted in areas around the university i attend which could have meaning to strangers that come across it. i wondered if i could apply this concept to the wider community and how bonds are formed between strangers. from this thought, a keyword that popped into my mind, and that word was ‘mutual’.
auckland is quite a small place in terms of connections, often times I meet people for the first time and come to find that we share mutual friends.
this triggered a thought that although i only have a certain amount of friends in my bubble, i’m linked to a wider society of people that i have no knowledge of in this moment of time. i became a human link, for friends who have met through me, so i could also serve as an example of a social conduit, and so can everyone who's ever made a friend.
this blog will become a record of how strangers meet through a mutual friend acting as someone who speaks between, an interlocutor, the link, the social conduit. this blog is created with the idea of becoming a public album of stories which are available to read for strangers, but have special value for the individuals who were a part of the stories posted. read and share, maybe you'll even find stories similar to yours.
this project will start off shared with my immediate circle of connections but intended to branch off as my connections decide to participate with their own connections,
thus becoming a social conduit in itself, an active event which follows the family tree of connections from mutual to strangers.
